Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment in Maple, Brampton East & West, ON
Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment Near You
At Align Orthodontics, we offer two-phase orthodontic treatment in Maple, Brampton East & West, ON. This special approach helps guide your child’s teeth and jaw development as they grow. The goal is to improve the way their teeth and jaws work, look, and stay healthy for life.
What is Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment?
The two-phase treatment consists of two distinct parts. The process extends beyond tooth alignment. The treatment plan assists in the proper development of your child’s face and jaws during the child’s growth period. The initial treatment phase occurs during childhood development to stop future dental complications from occurring.
Phase One: Early Preventive Treatment
This phase usually starts somewhere between 6 and 10 years of age while the child still has baby teeth.
The goal of the first phase is to aid the jaws to properly develop so there is adequate space for the normal eruption of adult teeth. We also check for problems early—like jaw growth issues, breathing troubles, or habits like thumb sucking—that can affect your child’s teeth or face.
What Early Preventive Treatment Can Do:
- Help the upper and lower jaws grow properly
- Create space for all the adult teeth
- Fix early bite problems
- Make your child smile look better
- Treat mouth breathing or airway issues
- Stop bad habits like thumb sucking
Early Treatment May Prevent:
- In the future, pulling adult teeth
- Jaw operation in later life
- Longer orthodontic treatment in teenage years (2-3 years)
Thus, performing early treatment on your child’s teeth is a way of preventing them.
Resting Period (Between Phase 1 and Phase 2)
After the first phase, your child will go through a resting phase. During this time, the remaining adult teeth will grow in. Our orthodontics near you in Brampton West will still monitor your child’s smile as their teeth continue to develop. No braces are worn during this stage, but we may use a retainer to keep the teeth in place.
Phase Two: Corrective Treatment
This phase begins when most or all of the adult teeth have come in—usually around age 11 to 13.
In this phase, we move each tooth into its ideal position. The goal is to make sure the teeth, jaws, and muscles all work together the right way. A healthy bite helps with chewing, speaking, and keeping your teeth strong.
What We Do in Phase Two:
Use braces or Invisalign® to move the teeth
Align the teeth and jaws
Create a bite that works and looks good
Give your child a smile that lasts for life
At Align Orthodontics, about 80–90% of our phase two patients can use Invisalign®. This is great for teens who want a clear and comfortable option instead of metal braces.
